Week Eight Streamer Results
Derek Carr – 33.8 points
Baker Mayfield – 16.1 points
Carr was the obvious choice last week and boy did he deliver. Mayfield has been serviceable over the last few weeks but surprisingly isn’t tipping the 50% ownership mark in either league ahead of a matchup with the Chiefs. If he’s available or on your roster lock him in for the next two weeks.
Alex Smith vs Falcons (43% Yahoo, 49% ESPN)
Smith has been his typical self, never reaching 21 fantasy points yet averaging 15 FPPG. He’s certainly a risky play from that perspective yet is capable of big games and gets a Falcons defense that is consistently gashed week to week.
Smith is excelling in passes 0-10 yards downfield as well as the middle of the field in passes over 10 yards, exactly where the Falcons are the weakest due to injuries.
This should be a close game with Atlanta’s offense typically struggling away from home and the Redskins only favored by 1.5. I expect Smith to have a great game along with Jordan Reed and Chris Thompson. Lock Smith in as the best quarterback streamer of the week.
Baker Mayfield vs Chiefs (42% Yahoo, 40% ESPN)
As mentioned above Mayfield has been serviceable putting up 19.9 and 16.1 points in plus matchups the last two weeks. The Chiefs are another plus matchup for him and struggle against the run. With the firing of Hue Jackson and Todd Haley this week things could open up for Baker to use his legs, things good also go horribly wrong and that’s a risk we take in the streaming game.
On the plus side, how could you not root for the Browns new OC Freddie Kitchens:
Joe Flacco vs Steelers (35% Yahoo, 37% ESPN)
I’m going back to the well with Flacco, who put up 24.2 fantasy points against them in week 4 and now gets them at home where he plays much better. The Steelers didn’t make any moves at the deadline to bolster their defense and are still middle of the pack defensively. Flacco has been up and down over the last 4 weeks but has faced several tough defenses including the Browns, Titans, and Panthers, yet against the Saints weak defense he put up a very serviceable 22.6 fantasy points. In leagues where the higher owned Smith and Mayfield aren’t options I’ll be using Flacco.
